A startup recruiter in New York needs to cover two very different searches: technical hires who often have fintech or media experience, and sales and marketing people who are used to fast, commercial teams. Funded.club hires for New York startups with remote recruiters, a fixed fee per hire agreed upfront and first screened candidates within 7 days.

## Why New York hiring feels different

New York is a commercial city first. Its startup scene has grown up around finance, media, advertising, retail and enterprise software, so a lot of the talent here understands buyers, revenue and deadlines. That makes it a strong place to build a go-to-market team, and a demanding place to hire engineers, who are courted by banks, trading firms and large tech companies with New York offices.

Candidates here tend to move quickly and expect you to do the same. They also compare offers carefully. A New York candidate will usually want to understand the full package, the title, the reporting line and the path to the next role before they say yes.

## Hiring sales and go-to-market talent in NYC

For many funded startups, New York is where the first account executives, sales leaders and marketers come from. A few things help:

- **Define the motion.** Say whether the role sells to mid-market or enterprise, whether it is outbound-heavy, and how long a typical deal takes. Good sellers screen you on this.
- **Be honest about quota and pipeline.** Experienced reps ask how much pipeline exists today and who generates it. Vague answers lose strong people.
- **Show the commission plan early.** Share the on-target earnings split and how commission is paid before the final round, not after.
- **Hire the leader or the first rep deliberately.** Founders often need a hands-on seller before a manager. Our guide to [hiring a VP of Sales](https://funded.club/blog/hire-vp-sales-startup) covers when that switch makes sense.

## Hiring engineers against finance and big tech

New York engineers are often experienced in regulated or high-volume systems: payments, trading, data platforms, ad tech. If your product sits in fintech, insurtech or anything with compliance requirements, that background is a real asset, and worth naming in your job description.

You will not usually outbid the largest employers on salary. Instead, be clear about ownership, the quality of the engineering team and how technical decisions are made. Many engineers leave larger firms because they want to ship faster and see the effect of their work. Show them that on the first call, ideally with a founder or senior engineer rather than a script.

## Office days, commutes and flexibility

Plenty of New York startups expect some days in the office, and candidates generally understand that. What they want is clarity. Tell them the number of days, the office location and whether the rule is firm or flexible.

Commutes across the boroughs, New Jersey, Westchester and Long Island vary a lot, so location matters more than a map suggests. For hard-to-fill technical roles, consider whether someone in the Eastern time zone working remotely would be just as effective. Widening the net can shorten a search considerably.

## Where Funded.club fits for New York startups

Funded.club is a fixed-fee recruiting partner, founded in 2019, that has helped 500+ startups from Seed to Series D across North America, Europe and APAC. We do not have a New York office. Our fully remote recruiters hire for NYC roles in engineering, product, sales, marketing, operations, customer success and leadership.

Each search has one dedicated recruiter who handles sourcing, headhunting, screening and support through the offer. First screened candidates arrive within 7 days, and the average from kick-off to hire is 33 days.

Fees are fixed per hire by salary band: $4,900 up to $70,000, $7,500 up to $110,000, $11,500 up to $150,000 and $15,900 to $21,900 above $150,000. Full detail is on our [pricing page](https://funded.club/pricing).

A worked example: for an account executive on a $140,000 base, a 20 to 25% contingency fee would be $28,000 to $35,000. Funded.club's fixed fee for that band is $11,500, averaging 6 to 9% of salary across hires. Part is paid as an advance at the start of the search and the balance when the candidate accepts. If we do not deliver a shortlist of at least 3 qualified candidates within 30 days, you can claim the advance back in full.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Funded.club based in New York?

No. Funded.club has no office in New York or anywhere else. It is a fully remote recruiting partner whose recruiters hire for New York startups, as well as teams across North America, Europe and APAC.

### Can a startup recruiter help me build my first sales team in NYC?

Yes. Funded.club regularly fills sales, marketing and customer success roles alongside technical ones, with one recruiter running each search end to end. For planning the sequence, see [your first 10 hires after funding](https://funded.club/blog/first-10-hires-after-funding).

### How does a fixed fee compare with a percentage fee for a New York hire?

Percentage fees rise with salary, so the cost grows as the role gets more senior. A fixed fee is agreed upfront by salary band, from $4,900 to $21,900 per hire. For a side-by-side view of models, read our [flat-fee recruiter guide](https://funded.club/blog/flat-fee-recruiter-startups).

### What if the search does not produce good candidates?

If Funded.club does not deliver a shortlist of at least 3 qualified candidates within 30 days, you can claim the advance back in full. First-time customers can also ask to defer the advance until they see their first candidates.
