Startup recruiter in Tel Aviv: hiring Israeli tech talent

Before you hire Israeli tech talent for a Tel Aviv team, work out how much of the week that team will share with the rest of your company, and hire people who do their best work in that shape. Most Israeli tech companies work Sunday to Thursday, so a US-based startup shares four days and only a couple of office hours on each. Funded.club recruits for Tel Aviv with a fully remote team of recruiters on a fixed fee, with first screened candidates within 7 days.

Tel Aviv has a deep pool of engineers, product people and technical founders, many with experience at startups and at the research and development centres of large tech companies. For a US startup hiring there, the harder part is usually the collaboration model, which founders tend to design after the first hire has already started.

A worked example: the first two engineers in Tel Aviv

Take a Seed-stage startup based in New York that wants its first two engineers in Tel Aviv. The founders and product lead stay in New York. Everyone works a standard 9 to 6 day in their own city. These working hours are illustrative, so plug in your own team's pattern.

The two teams share Monday to Thursday. Sunday is a Tel Aviv workday with nobody in New York, and Friday is the reverse. On shared days, the overlap is roughly 9am to 11am in New York, which is late afternoon in Tel Aviv. That leaves around eight hours of shared office time a week, so everything else has to work in writing.

This changes who you should hire first. An engineer who needs frequent check-ins will struggle. Someone who can take a written spec, make sensible decisions alone on a Sunday and bring clear questions to the shared window will do well. In our example the founders hired a senior engineer who had led a small team before, then let that person help choose the second hire.

Set up the shared week before the first interview

Candidates in Tel Aviv who have worked with US companies before will ask how the time difference works in practice. Good answers make your role stand out from ones where it is clearly an afterthought.

  • Put the key meetings in the shared window. Planning, reviews and one-to-ones belong in New York mornings from Monday to Thursday.
  • Protect the rest of the day. Don't expect the Tel Aviv team to stay online into the night, or New York to start before dawn.
  • Write things down. Specs, decisions and handovers need to be written so Sunday and Friday are productive for each side.
  • Plan for the calendar. Israeli public and religious holidays differ from US ones, so share both calendars when you plan releases.

A Tel Aviv hiring checklist

These are the questions to answer before you open a Tel Aviv role. Employment and tax rules for Israeli staff are specific, so take advice from a local employment lawyer or accountant on anything contractual.

QuestionWhy it matters
Who is the legal employer? You will need an Israeli entity or an employer of record before you can make an offer
How will equity be granted?Israel has its own tax rules for employee options, so the plan often needs local set-up
What are the shared hours?Candidates will ask, and it shapes who succeeds in the role
Who does the Tel Aviv team report to?A local lead makes day-to-day decisions possible without waiting for New York
How will you cover absences? Some people have reserve duty commitments. Plan team cover for it and never treat it as a hiring criterion
How fast can you make an offer?Strong candidates are often talking to several companies, including large tech employers

Frequently asked questions

Does Funded.club have an office in Tel Aviv?

No. Funded.club is fully remote and hires for Tel Aviv with remote recruiters. Your dedicated recruiter handles sourcing, screening and offer support remotely, and candidates meet your team by video or in person where you have a presence.

What days do Israeli tech teams work?

Most Israeli tech companies work Sunday to Thursday. A startup based in the US or Europe that works Monday to Friday therefore shares four days a week with a Tel Aviv team, and should plan its key meetings for those days.

Can a US startup hire in Israel without an Israeli company?

Yes, through an employer of record, which employs the person under Israeli law on your behalf. Some startups set up a local subsidiary instead, especially when they plan a larger team. Take local advice on employment and equity before making an offer.

How much does a recruiter cost for a Tel Aviv hire?

Contingency recruiters typically charge 20 to 25% of first-year salary. Funded.club charges a fixed fee agreed upfront, averaging 6 to 9% of salary, from $4,900 to $21,900 per hire depending on the salary band.
