Headquartered in Amsterdam with a significant presence in San Francisco, WeTravel serves over 8,000 businesses globally. In 2022, the company raised $27 million in Series B funding led by Left Lane Capital, bringing its total funding to $34 million. This investment supports the expansion of its fintech solutions tailored to the travel industry.

The challenge
WeTravel set out to transform the group travel industry with a powerful platform that streamlines operations for travel businesses around the world.
A key challenge was building a distributed team across multiple regions to match the company’s global customer base—sales expertise in the U.S. and Southeast Asia, customer support in Latin America and Europe, and top-tier product and engineering talent across time zones.
Relying on traditional job ads wasn’t delivering the quality or diversity of candidates needed to scale effectively. Too much time was being spent screening unqualified applicants, delaying critical hires.
We also needed to ensure that every new team member—from Account Executives and SDRs to Senior Engineers and a Financial Controller—would uphold the standards and cultural alignment expected by WeTravel’s leadership team.

The Solution
Collaborating with WeTravel’s leadership since summer 2019, Funded.club has supported multiple phases of the company’s growth—including the highly challenging period during the COVID-19 pandemic, when global travel was restricted and the entire industry was under pressure.
Despite lockdowns and a dramatic slowdown in travel, WeTravel remained focused on strengthening its platform and preparing for a rebound. Our role was to help them continue building a resilient, distributed team that could support product innovation, customer engagement, and operational stability—despite remote work and hiring limitations across borders.
With our global network of recruiters, each search was matched to a specialist with local knowledge and relevant industry experience—whether that meant sourcing sales talent in the U.S. and Southeast Asia, or engineering roles in Europe and Latin America.
We began every search with a focused kick-off call involving WeTravel’s key stakeholders—typically the CEO, COO (Zaky Prabowo - University of California, Berkeley), Head of Sales and CTO. These deep-dive conversations helped shape each search strategy: sourcing channels, target locations, screening criteria, compensation benchmarks, and more.
How We Worked:
Advance Payment
We operated on a fixed-fee per role model, with a small advance invoiced before each search. This advance confirmed our exclusivity and ensured full commitment from both sides.
Headhunting & Outreach
Each role had a dedicated recruiter who led outreach via outbound messaging, calls, and niche sourcing tools (beyond just LinkedIn). Our personalized approach helped capture attention and engage passive candidates effectively—especially important when many candidates were rethinking career moves during uncertain times.
Candidate Screening
Once interest was established, candidates were thoroughly screened using tailored scorecards and qualifying questions. We then compiled detailed notes and recommendations to shortlist the top 3–5 candidates per role.

We advised WeTravel on offer strategy, ensuring fair, competitive packages across diverse international markets—from Senior DevOps Engineers to Financial Controllers and Digital Marketers.
Transparent Tracking & ATS Setup
As part of our partnership, we recommended that WeTravel implement a more robust Applicant Tracking System—Breezy. We helped set up and manage this system, aligning it with their hiring workflows and training key team members on how to use it effectively.
Throughout each search, our recruiters worked directly inside Breezy, collaborating with hiring managers in real time. This gave WeTravel full visibility into every candidate pipeline, including recruiter notes, scorecards, and feedback history—not just the final shortlist. This level of transparency helped drive faster, better-informed hiring decisions and eliminated any guesswork or delays.
Each search was led by a dedicated recruiter with both regional expertise and functional knowledge. That recruiter managed all candidate interactions and acted as the main point of contact for the hiring manager.
As an early customer of Funded.club, oversight by our own founder and CEO, ensured that timelines stayed on track and that every project maintained a high bar for quality, communication, and delivery.
The Result
WeTravel steadily scaled into a high-performing, globally distributed team over the years we’ve supported them. Funded.club began working with WeTravel in 2019, helping them make key hires before the COVID-19 pandemic—including early sales, product, and support roles that laid the foundation for their growth.
When the pandemic hit and the travel industry came to a standstill, WeTravel made the strategic decision to downsize in order to preserve cash and extend runway. Instead of halting hiring entirely, the leadership team focused on operational efficiency and preparing the business for recovery.
As global travel rebounded, WeTravel entered a period of rapid growth, rebuilding and expanding teams across key functions. We helped them quickly scale back up with high-quality hires across sales, engineering, customer support, and marketing.
We sourced and secured talent across multiple regions—including sales professionals in the U.S., Southeast Asia, and Ecuador, as well as backend developers, DevOps engineers, and customer support specialists in Europe and Latin America. Each candidate was vetted for both experience and the ability to thrive in a remote-first environment, helping WeTravel stay lean and globally connected.
One of the most impactful hires was a Head of Sales (US)—a strategic leadership role that brought direction, structure, and momentum to the commercial team during their post-pandemic growth phase.
Throughout the partnership, WeTravel engaged us on a low, fixed-fee per role under Funded.club’s standard terms, committing to Exclusivity on a job-by-job basis. This model allowed them to hire top-tier global talent while avoiding the high costs of traditional recruitment agencies—ultimately saving over €200k in recruiting fees.
